Pyrography

The word pyrography comes from the Greek word piros, which means fire, and graphos meaning scripture. One uses an electrical device which is heated to the point for engraving wood or other material such as paper, fabric or leather. It looks a little bit like a solder/welding machine and it has different points to create certain effects. The more advanced machines can be heated. The higher the temperature the darker the colour will be, from light brown to almost black.

History
This technique was already used centuries ago by Egyptians and Africans. There have, however also been found prehistoric images where the first humans used the embers of a burning fire.
